Our Leduc Shop

We have our shop at the Leduc West Antique Society, which is 6 km west of Leduc, Alberta. We are around 25 minutes from Edmonton.

Our shop is among the main building cluster, behind the enterance train tracks.

Getting in on shop days

The park gates are normally locked on days without shows, but expect that one of the members will open the main front gates for you by at least 10:00am. If the gate is not open by then, please contact the group facebook chat or contact us to see if the meeting has been cancelled.

What to Bring to Get the Most From Your First Meet

Ideas for Simple Projects

If you’re new to blacksmithing, starting with a simple project is a great way to learn the basics. Here are a few beginner-friendly ideas that will help you practice hammer control, tapering, bending, and twisting:

Leaf Keychain – A great way to practice tapering and spreading metal.
S-Hooks – Learn basic bending and scrolling.
J-Hooks – Perfect for wall-mounted hooks and getting comfortable with shaping.
Nail – A fundamental exercise in drawing out and tapering metal.
Fire Poker – A simple but useful tool that teaches twisting and scrolling techniques. (this is a steak turner, but it is similar to a poker)

To have a successful and safe forging session, be sure to bring the following items:

"Ore-igami" Bloomery Iron Melting Furnace Demo

The Guild is excited to host our first bloomery demonstration at the park! A bloomery is a small earth furnace where charcoal, fire and iron ore combine to create a “bloom” of iron metal. This ancient process produces real wrought iron, just as it was made before modern furnaces existed.

Join us to witness this fascinating piece of history in action and see how iron was crafted centuries ago. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to experience the roots of blacksmithing!

Our Community in Edmonton

The Founding Chapter of WCBG serves the Edmonton region and meets on the second Saturday of each month at the Leduc West Antique Society, located 6 km west of Leduc. Click here for directions.

to preserve the ancient skill of Blacksmithing as a trade, a craft, and an art form.

Deep Freeze Byzantine Winter Festival Demo

Members of the guild will be demonstrating at the Deep Freeze Byzantine Winter Festival in Edmonton.

The demo will be at 12:00pm-8:30pm Saturday, and 12:00pm-6:00PM Sunday.

LWAS Annual Exposition Event Day 2

The largest LWAS event of the year, the Expo will feature concessions, a vintage tractor pull competition, animal interaction, face painting, music events, vintage vehicle parade, demonstrations, historic buildings and displays.

The Western Canadian Blacksmithing Guild will be participating in LWAS’s 35th Anniversary event at the Alberta Heritage Exposition Park! This family-friendly event features a Vintage Tractor Pull, BBQ Competition, Swap Meet, historic displays, and more.

Our club will be hosting live blacksmithing demonstrations on Saturday and Sunday – a perfect chance to showcase your skills, inspire new enthusiasts, and connect with fellow members. We encourage all members to come out for the event.

WCBG Membership

The WCBG is always looking to increase our membership and get more people involved in blacksmithing. Membership is open to everyone.

Benefits

Members have access to the anvils, forges, tools, scrap steel and coal at the Leduc shop on our meeting days. The guild is also comprised of many enthusiasts and professional smiths that are very happy to share their knowledge and skills with other members.

Any member who brings only appropriate clothing and safety glasses can try blacksmithing at our shop. Learn more about what to bring to your first forging day.
